Use PECOS first when you have the NPI or legal business name.
The CMS PECOS status search is the broad official starting point. It is separate from ActableSite and from the public pending-enrollment datasets.
- Search by National Provider Identifier or legal business name.
- Use the exact organization name submitted on the enrollment record.
- If the application is not shown or more detail is needed, continue to the responsible MAC.
Find the A/B contractor and the input its tool expects.
CMS generally assigns a provider or supplier to the A/B MAC covering its location. Select the location below to route to a verified official contractor or CMS assistance surface.
Choose the location where the provider or supplier is enrolled. The finder does not cover DMEPOS, home health and hospice, or Railroad Medicare jurisdiction rules.
Jurisdictions follow the CMS provider assignment explanation and CMS MAC jurisdiction list. Virginia has a published Part B exception for Arlington and Fairfax counties and the City of Alexandria. Always confirm the line of business on the contractor page.

Medicare enrollment application status questions
Can I check Medicare enrollment application status with an NPI?
PECOS lets you search by NPI or legal business name. Some MAC tools also accept an NPI, while others require an application, reference, or PECOS tracking identifier.
Is appearing in a public CMS pending file the same as live PECOS status?
No. The public files are dated snapshots of initial applications pending contractor processing. They do not replace live PECOS or MAC application status and do not prove approval or enrollment.
Which Medicare contractor handles my application?
For ordinary Part A and Part B enrollment, CMS generally assigns the MAC covering the provider or supplier location. DMEPOS, home health and hospice, and Railroad Medicare use different jurisdiction rules.
Why does a MAC tool not find a recently submitted application?
Contractor tools can lag receipt or processing. Published notes range from daily or 24-hour refreshes to a possible 15-day delay before an application appears.
